Lockbolts

Procedure for Selecting Pins & Collars:
1. Determine diameter and material of pin required.

2. Determine most suitable pin head style:
  a. Brazier - standard applications
  b. Truss - low profile applications
  c. Countersunk - for a flush finish
  d. Mushroom - large underhead footprint spreads load on softer materials

3. Select most suitable collar style:
  a. Regular - standard applications
  b. Flanged - spreads load when fastening softer materials
  c. Low-profile - where clearance is restricted

4. Determine correct grip reference for the pin :
Ensure that the total thickness of the materials to be fastened falls within the grip range shown in
the table on page 5.
Note : When using flanged or low-profile collars the grip range must be adjusted using the figures
given in the grip range adjustment table on page 5 and as illustrated in the examples below.

Examples:
Assuming a 4.8 mm diameter (diameter reference 06) steel pin with brazier head, to fasten a total
material thickness of 5mm :

  i) Using regular collar ARSR0600.
From the table of grip ranges : diameter ref. 06, grip ref. 03 has a range of 3.2mm to 6.4mm.
Correct pin is ARSB0603 with regular collar.

  ii) Using flanged collar ARSF0600.
The grip range adjustment table shows D to be 1.6mm for 06 pins.
    Adjustment D is added to the total material thickness : 5.0 + 1.6 (D) = 6.6mm.
From the table of grip ranges : diameter ref. 06, grip ref. 04 has a range of 4.8mm to 7.9mm.
Correct pin is ARSB0604 with flanged collar.

  iii) Using low-profile collar ARSL0600.
The grip range adjustment table shows E to be 2.4mm for 06 pins.
  Adjustment E is deducted from the total material thickness : 5.0 - 2.4 (E) = 2.6mm.
From the table of grip ranges : diameter ref. 06, grip ref. 02 has a range of 1.6mm to 4.8mm.
Correct pin is ARSB0602 with low-profile collar.
